NYU Shanghai graduate programs are made possible through collaboration with peer NYU schools in New York such as the Stern School of Business, Tandon School of Engineering, Tisch School of the Arts, and others. Students benefit from top faculty at both campuses, cutting-edge curricula and global study experiences that are the hallmark of a NYU education.
NYU Shanghai doctoral students conduct research at the frontiers of their fields. Guided by faculty, they are currently pursuing projects related to cell biology, computational psychiatry, differential equations, traffic modeling, social stratification, drug design, and quantum algorithms, among others. They have presented and published their work widely in leading international and domestic forums and journals.
NYU Shanghai graduate programs feature abundant opportunities to engage in practice-based learning with co-curricular partners such as local social impact organizations, arts and educational institutions, and corporate enterprises. Students can directly apply skills acquired in their classes in a real world context and prepare for work after graduation. Practice-based learning opportunities have included field placements at health-related Shanghai NGOs for MSW students, museum exhibitions of art installations created by IMA students, and business capstone projects completed by master’s degree students for multinational companies.
NYU Shanghai regularly designs custom programs for graduate students from the NYU campus to engage in on-campus study and research here. These programs range from short course-based J-term or Summer session modules to semester-long, full-time enrollment providing complete immersion. To date, close to 1000 full-time students have participated in such programs, including Executive MBAs and master’s students in urbanization, integrated marketing, and global sport.
Over the past decade, NYU Shanghai has welcomed advanced degree students from every province in China and 17 countries worldwide, ranging in age from 21 to 63. More than 400 have graduated from PhD and master’s programs so far. Following graduation, many choose to stay in Shanghai, while some choose to move to other cities in China or abroad like Australia, Los Angeles, New York City, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore for employment or further study. They join a worldwide NYU alumni community of 600,000 strong, having earned an unparalleled NYU education while enjoying the unique advantages of study at NYU Shanghai.
