Contributing to Urban and Social Development, Well-Being, and Prosperity

NYU Shanghai utilizes international collaboration and interdisciplinary research to conduct studies across diverse fields such as Urban Science, Business, Finance, and Public Health. Through scientific research, the University seeks to contribute to local and national strategic goals, while also fulfilling its role as an influential academic institution and actively expanding its public service function.

Leveraging its location in the financial center of China, the University established the Center for Business Education and Research (CBER) and the Volatility Institute at NYU Shanghai (VINS). NYU Shanghai’s Business faculty conduct innovative research on marketing, economics and finance with a China focus, integrating a wealth of real-world experience and business acumen into academic and research activities. VINS focuses on both the Chinese and global financial markets. Under the guidance of Robert Engle, an emeritus professor at NYU Stern and recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics, the institute members are conducting cutting-edge research. Their comprehensive analysis of global financial markets’ risks contributes to international financial policies in a meaningful way.
